Nicholas Llewellyn

On the 15th of August 2009, Leif Llewellyn (formerly Griffiths) took my hand in marriage. We all moved into our family home officially in the fortnight following the wedding finishing up on the 4th of October 2009.

After much discussion, and because she suggested it before her mum and I got married, we changed our daughter's name to Llewellyn too.

I feel so lucky to have both Leif and Tia in my life, In July 2010, I dived out of a Technical Services Management role at FD Systems Ltd into a more focussed and rewarding role, that of Front End Developer for Comtec Europe. Comtec provide holiday booking and travel agent management products. A large selection of the products and services from their portfolio is web-based (but not necessarily on-the-web), and I am now a member of the UI Team, re-skinning and bug fixing. The products are complicated and it can be a difficult task creating semantically correct and accessible sites, but the effort is worth it and I feel proud of my achievements.

I'd prefer not to be defined by my current job role. Especially considering that pre Comtec, my career path could have been loosely defined as SysAdmin, Techy or Manager. I am more than that. I am a creative person with strong tendencies towards 'holistic and fluid thought' as opposed to 'constrained or linear thought' which invariably leads me to design and build systems, as opposed to individual tools.

I rarely take an action without planning and risk assessment and am well versed in project management, working within a development cycle and have a friendly approach. I engage in many interests outside of computers.

Perhaps I spread myself too thinly and don't practice my sports and other activites often enough but I enjoy what I do. I try to keep a log of all that I have done on this site as I often forget when I last did something and it's handy to refer back.

I like to get people involved with the things I do. For instance, I currently manage a hiking group called UK Provincial Outdoor Pursuits (UKPOP) with nearly fifty members on Facebook. I arranged 14 events between September 2008 and March 2010. A strong passion of mine is spending time in the outdoors, in any weather as far into the country as possible. This is a good thing as I live in Wales which is pretty wet, but it's even pretty when wet. There is a lot of beautiful countryside and mountainous regions to enjoy.

I'm not limiting myself to hiking, I run, swim and bike, take photographs, cook, garden and read books too!
